General
What equipment does my child need to play soccer?
All players must have soccer cleats (metal cleats are not allowed) and shin guards. Upon registration your child will receive a soccer kit that will include the soccer jersey, socks and shorts.
Can I choose which coach or players my child is with?
In order to have balanced teams we reserve the right to assign players to teams.
Who we will play? Is there a lot of traveling involved?
We play with other like-minded teams from the Alouette, Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland Districts. This involves playing locally (Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows) and there will be away games against other teams. There will be some travelling involved for everyone in these Districts. This is only for U8's and up.
When are we going to hear from the Coach?
The coach will usually contact the players via email prior to the season start (1 or 2 weeks prior to). If there is no coach assigned to your child's team you will receive an email from our Coordinator.
What is the Parent and Player and Weekickers Programs all about?
This program is mixed (boys and girls) and run by our technical staff.  All participants have been divided into groups and follows the guidelines of the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) Long Term Player Development guidelines for Active Start and Fundamentals.  This is a Parent Participation program which means parents get involved during the session. Our Technical Staff will make the sessions fun and educational to help the players build their soccer skills and confidence.
Does my son/daughter need previous soccer experience to participate?
Not at all.  All players are welcome to join our Club!  We make sure we balance our teams so every player has the opportunity to develop at their own pace and at the same time build their soccer skills and confidence.
Are unregistered younger siblings allowed to participate during sessions, games and/or practices?
Only parents/helpers and registered players are allowed on the field.  Due to insurance and liability reasons younger siblings cannot participate during the program.
Where can I find/buy shin guards and cleats (soccer shoes)?
You can buy the shin guards and cleats at any sport store or department store.  Also, check out “Sport Traders” and other second hand stores.
What to bring for the sessions?
It is recommended you bring water bottle, full uniform, cleats and shin guards.  If it's a hot day sunscreen is advisable :).
What happens if it is raining?
Please dress for the weather.  Soccer can and will be played in the rain.  Field closures are usually due to standing water on the field or poor field conditions where further use will destroy the field making it unusable for weeks.  To protect the fields, they are closed when they may be damaged.
How will I know if the session is cancelled due to field closure?
During inclement weather we suggest you check our website Friday night and Saturday or Sunday morning before your scheduled session.   The coach might also attempt to contact you by email. We encourage all parents to check our website first (http://albionfc.ca/) for Field Updates as email can be unreliable at times.  Field closures will be mentioned on the main page and on the “Fields” section of the website.
Can I get the list of players that my son/daughter will be playing with?
Unfortunately we are not able to give this information out to the other parents. However as a team decision your coach might provide contact information about other parents in the team. If you rather not be included in any email list we suggest you contact the coach directly and communicate this as soon as possible.
What should I do if I have any questions about team placement for my child or a special request?
Please contact info@albionfc.ca with your question and/or request and we will do my best to help.
What happens the first day of soccer?
On the first day please arrive 5-10 minutes early prior your scheduled time to find your group. You will receive an email directly from the Coach or Program Coordinator with instructions on where to meet and the time.
We will not be able to attend the first day, what should we do?
Please let your coach if you will not be able to make it to a game or practice. This way he can plan a team strategy based on the number of players attending. Hopefully we will see you the following week :)
What is the play format per division?

Play Formats:

U8 to U12 play 8v8

U13 to U18 play 11v11
How do you choose your Coaches?
All our Coaches are volunteers, they have to follow a process to apply to be a coach (application, Criminal Record Check), the application is reviewed, they complete a Criminal Record Check specific to working with children, they take a training course given by BC Soccer and are then appointed into a position as Coach.
I received an email that my child’s team does not have a coach. What does that mean?
Albion FC relies on dedicated volunteers giving their time, so that we may have a league. If nobody steps up to volunteer we will reach to the parents within that team to see if someone steps up. If no one steps up the team might have to be reassigned to other teams if space is available.

Soccer Registration
What are the program costs?
Please visit our Registration Page (https://secure.millsoft.ca/afc/Programs). Costs vary per division and all the information can be found here.
My son wants to be Goalie what do I do?
You can mention this during the registration. In addition to this please make sure you take advantage of our Free Goalie Clinics! There is a weekly session dedicated to build goalie skills and help them practice :).
Do you have a Soccer Academy?
We have two new Fall Academy Programs! Development Program - U8 and up Boys and Girls. This program is aimed at players still working on their skills and/or are new to the game of soccer. Advanced Skills & Tactics - U8 and up Boys and Girls. This program is aimed at "Select" and "Prospects" players.
Is insurance included with my registration?
Because we are registered with BC Soccer, one of the many benefits is that an insurance and liability package to all Albion FC registered members is included for each registered player. Please visit BC Soccer (https://www.bcsoccer.net/insurance) for more information.
How do I register my child to play with your club?
You can register online by clicking here: https://secure.millsoft.ca/afc/webapps/spappz_live/re_reg1.
I have two children who are very close in age, can they be placed on the same team?
Our programs are designed by age group and as such they are developmental. Therefore we do not believe that players should play outside their division. This will also take a spot on that age group and might cause us to turn players down that legitimately belong in a certain division, which is not fair. However, we might consider moving players if a division is full and the next higher division needs additional players. This is done on a one by one basis after evaluating the situation and the player skills and at the Club’s discretion.
Is there some sort of Financial Assistance available?
Absolutely! If you are in need of Financial Assistance to help with or cover the cost of your child or children to play soccer please visit Kidsport or Jumpstart and apply with one of these programs. When registering for soccer and applying for financial assistance, you must complete your registration with full payment and then will be reimbursed by your choice of financial assistance. KIDSPORT - www.kidsportcanada.ca JUMPSTART - www.jumpstart.ca
Can we request a friend?
Yes you can! During registration there will be a place that you can specifically request one friend. Please note that we can’t guarantee that your child will be placed together with his/her friend as we need to make sure teams are balanced. However, we do try our best to meet every request and we understating that playing together with a friend can be beneficial to some players.
