General
What equipment does my child need to play soccer?
All players must have soccer cleats (metal cleats are not allowed), shin guards and black shorts. Upon registration your child will receive a soccer kit that will include the soccer jersey and socks.
Can I choose which coach or players my child is with?
In order to have balanced teams we reserve the right to move players across teams to ensure we comply with BC Soccer balanced teams standards. We do take in consideration requests made during registration when performing these changes and we aim to place each child in the most thriving environment.
Who we will play? Is there a lot of traveling involved?

We play with other like-minded teams from the Alouette, Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland Districts. This involves playing locally (Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows) and away games as well so some travelling is expected.

Fall Season

  • U8-U10 teams will play under the NFYSA League
  • U11-U12 House Teams will also play under NFYSA League
  • U11/U12 Division 1 & 2 and all teams U13 and up will play under BCCSL and travel outside the Maple Ridge and Mission boundaries should be expected.

Spring Season

  • U8-U10 teams will play under the NFYSA League
  • All teams U11 and up will play via Cascadia League and travel outside the Maple Ridge and Mission boundaries should be expected.
When are we going to hear from the Coach?
The coach will usually contact the players via email prior to the season start (1 or 2 weeks prior to). If there is no coach assigned to your child's team you will receive an email from our Coordinator.
Are unregistered younger siblings allowed to participate during sessions, games and/or practices?
Only team staff and parents if necessary for our U4-U7 program and registered players are allowed on the field.  Due to insurance and liability reasons younger siblings cannot participate during the program.
Where can I find/buy shin guards and cleats (soccer shoes)?

You can buy the shin guards and cleats at any sport store or department store. All players get a 10% discount at Soccer X!

Please see more information here https://albionfc.ca/apparel.

What do we need to bring for the sessions, practices and games?

It is recommended you bring:

  • Water bottle
  • Full uniform (for games)
  • Cleats and shin guards
  • Wear sunblock when applicable
  • Dress for the weather! All our training is done outside. When cold we recommend under armor type clothing underneath the uniform (for games). For practices players can wear hoodies, pants and anything that is comfortable and allows for movement.
What happens if it is raining?
Please dress for the weather.  Soccer can and will be played in the rain.  Field closures are usually due to standing water on the field or poor field conditions where further use will destroy the field making it unusable for weeks.  To protect the fields, they are closed when they may be damaged.
How will I know if the session is cancelled due to field closure?

During inclement weather we suggest you:

  • Check our website Friday night and Saturday or Sunday morning before your scheduled session.
  • U8 and up players please check your emails from the coach.
  • Field closures will be mentioned on the main page and on the Fields section of the website.
  • If you follow social media please make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Please note the club will not email all participants every time there is a field closure. Coaches will email the players directly and the Mini Coed Coordinator will email all Mini Coed participants.

Can I get the list of players that my son/daughter will be playing with?
Unfortunately we are not able to give this information out to the other parents. However as a team decision your coach might provide contact information about other parents in the team. If you rather not be included in any email list we suggest you contact the coach directly and communicate this as soon as possible.
What should I do if I have any questions about team placement for my child or a special request?
Please contact info@albionfc.ca with your question and/or request.
What happens the first day of soccer?

On the first day please arrive 5-10 minutes early prior your scheduled time to find your group. You will receive an email directly from the Coach or Program Coordinator with instructions on where to meet and the time.

We will not be able to attend the first day, what should we do?
Please let your coach if you will not be able to make it to a game or practice. This way he can plan a team strategy based on the number of players attending.
What is the U4-U7 Mini Coed Program?

This program is mixed (boys and girls) and run by our technical staff.  All participants have been divided into groups and follows the guidelines of the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) Long Term Player Development guidelines for Active Start and Fundamentals.  The U4-U5 is a Parent Participation program which means parents get involved during the session (parents are required to stay). Our Technical Staff will make the sessions fun and educational to help the players build their soccer skills and confidence.

Our U6-U7 groups will follow a similar format but parents are not required to stay or participate.

We run our Mini Coed program during the Fall (Saturday and Sundays) and Spring season on Sundays.

Sessions will run for 50 minutes to allow for our staff to sanitize equipment between sessions.

Does my son/daughter need previous soccer experience to participate?
Not at all.  All players are welcome to join our Club!  We make sure we balance our teams so every player has the opportunity to develop at their own pace and at the same time build their soccer skills and confidence.
What does the "U" before the age means?
We get this asked a lot! The U stands for "Under". So all players U6 will be 5 years old for example.
How do you choose your Coaches?

Our Technical Staff is fully qualified with their corresponding licenses. Please check their bio by clicking here.

All our Divisional Coaches are volunteers.

  • Coaches have to follow a process to apply to be a coach (application, Criminal Record Check).
  • Once approved as a coach they must take a training course given by BC Soccer and are then appointed to a team.
  • The Club ensures all coaches complete their training according to the BC Soccer Charter specifications and our technical staff work with them to ensure they are comfortable running practices and games.
I received an email that my child’s team does not have a coach. What does that mean?
Albion FC relies on dedicated volunteers giving their time, so that we may have a league. If nobody steps up to volunteer we will reach to the parents within that team to see if someone steps up. If no one steps up the team might have to be reassigned to other teams if space is available.
Who is the TECH Staff?

Glad you asked! Our Tech Staff runs all our Mini Coed sessions and our Programs. You can see their Bio and qualifications by visiting: https://albionfc.ca/techbio

Who do I contact if I have a specific age group question?
Please contact info@albionfc.ca with any questions or concerns.
Do you have a Club Calendar?
Yes we do! Please visit: https://albionfc.ca/webapps/calendar_appz/calendar for our Club Calendar and all the events in the next few months.
Where can I find your COVID-19 Guidelines and information?

Soccer Registration
Do I need to register by a certain date?

Yes, only those players who register by the deadline will be placed on a team in the pre-determined order of registration (subject to Coach availability). After the deadline, a non-refundable late fee applies, and team placement is not assured.

Is there an in-person registration day?
No, our registration process is only supported on-line.
Can I pay cash or give a check to the coach or staff the first day of the program or team practice?

Payment Information

Please see our Payment Options page.

  • All registration must be done online. We only accept credit cards via our online portal.
  • We do not accept cash or cheques at the field. Our coaches do not have the ability to accept or register players so please do not do this. The only way to secure your spot and have your child registered is online via the website.
  • If you do not have a credit card some of our parents have had success with Visa Debit cards or by buying a pre-paid credit card.

No exceptions. Unfortunately we do not have the man power to reconcile cash, cheque or interact etransfers and all must be done via credit card.

My confirmation email says my child is on a waitlist. What does this mean?

If at the time you register a program is full, your child will be placed on a waitlist. The waitlist will remain in the order of registrations received. Coordinators will try to find teams for waitlisted players either when an existing player cancels their registration or if new teams open up.

Your payment will only be processed if your child is moved out of the waitlist. Being on the waitlist does not charge your credit card until you are placed on a team.

What happens if I don't have online access or I am unable to register via the website?

Registrants without online access or credit cards are asked to register online with the assistance of a friend, relative or via public facilities (all local libraries provide free online access). See details of various available cards here.

What is your refund policy?

Please click here to see our Refund Policy.

My son/daughter has never played before, what should I register for?

All our programs and Spring League are beginner friendly! At Albion FC we develop players at any stage. For League play players will be placed in teams of equal ability and will be given the opportunity to move as they develop their skills.

Our Programs and Camps are a great way to start if you are not 100% certain that your son/daughter will like soccer. They provide a good opportunity to try out the basics without jumping all in. However if your son or daughter want to play with a team and doesn't have experience that is not a problem! We have players of all levels and design our programs to include everyone!
What if my son/daughter is a really skilled player?

We offer development programs starting at U08. Players are evaluated all year long by our Technical Staff and moved accordingly to make sure they are playing with a team that provides challenge and growth.

What are the program costs?

Please visit our Registration Page to see cost. Costs vary per division and all the information can be found here.

My son wants to be Goalie is there anything you recommend we do?

Please make sure to mention this during the registration.

We also have a Goalie Academy during the FALL where participants will have the opportunity to engage in exciting, intense, structured drills specifically designed to the goalkeeper’s age and ability level. Topics that will be covered throughout the season are:

  • Speed

  • Agility

  • Power

  • Positioning

  • Distribution

  • Diving

  • Handling

  • Shot-stopping

  • Crosses and Communication

The Goalie Academy is available during the FALL and it tailored to all players wanting to up their Goalie skills!

Do you have a Soccer Academy?

We have two Fall Academy Programs!

Advanced Skills & Tactics: This program is aimed at players who want to develop their soccer skills and develop new game tactics. Highly recommended for all Development players.

Goalie Academy: Participants will have the opportunity to engage in exciting, intense, structured drills specifically designed to the goalkeeper’s age and ability level.

Registration for these programs will be OPEN when our Fall registration opens (usually during early Summer).

I am not clear about the difference between all the programs and league play. Can you explain?

We hope this chart helps you understand better what we offer with each program.

For the U8-U18 Spring League (click here to register) players registered will be placed on a team with a coach. These players will practice together twice a week and have one game during the weekend. Players U8-U10 will play within District (meaning they will only play Pitt Meadows and Mission). Players U11 and up will play through Cascadia League and this will involve some travel past Mission or Pitt Meadows as the pool of teams is larger.

Our Programs (click here to register) only happen once a week. Players are not placed in teams, however they are placed in cohorts by age. Programs are best for players who do not want the commitment to play with a team or they can be a great compliment to league play for those players who want extra fitness and skill development sessions.
Is insurance included with my registration?
Because we are registered with BC Soccer, one of the many benefits is that an insurance and liability package to all Albion FC registered members is included for each registered player. Please visit BC Soccer (https://www.bcsoccer.net/insurance) for more information.
I don't get what happens in the World Cup Program. Can you explain what exactly this is?
World cup program is designed for those players who just want to play soccer all the time. The session includes a warm up and then is scrimmage games from there after. Kids who are always playing soccer at the school ground or at parks love this program. Scrimmages are an essential role in exposing players to game situations and provide an opportunity for the players to learn which of their “moves” work, and how and when to use them without the pressure of a game.
How do I know what age group to register for?
Our system will take care of that for you! Just enter the Date of Birth and follow the prompts. The system will place your son or daughter on the correct category.
How do I register my child to play with your club?

Registration instructions can be found in this document.

I have two children who are very close in age, can they be placed on the same team?

Our programs are designed by age group and as such they are developmental. We do not believe that players should play outside their division unless specifically evaluated by our technical staff.

We might consider moving players if a division is full and the next higher division needs additional players. This is done on an individual basis after evaluating the situation and the player skills and at the Club’s discretion.

If you want to discuss player movement please email our Technical Director at td@albionfc.ca and he will be happy to discuss your options.

Is there some sort of Financial Assistance available?

Please see our Financial Assistance resource page by clicking HERE.

Can we request a friend?

Yes you can!

During registration there will be a place that you can specifically request one friend. Please note that we can’t guarantee that your child will be placed together with his/her friend as we need to make sure teams are balanced. However, we do try our best to meet every request and we understating that playing together with a friend can be beneficial to some players.

Due to COVID restrictions we are currently limiting friend requests to 1 or 2 friends max. We have cohort limitations that take priority which means that we might not be able to fit everyone requested on one team. We always try our best but we can't guarantee this will happen during this very challenging times.

Volunteer
I want to volunteer!

That is great!

If you are volunteering to be a coach or team manager

All our Coach Volunteers need to complete a Coach application form and complete a Criminal Record Check. Please see information below on how to obtain this:
Online Link: https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC/
Access Code: HQWV8ENZ9C

Results will come directly to the Club. There are some cases where they will require you to provide a letter and go to a detachment in person. If this is the case please email me directly at diana@albionfc.ca to get this process started.

All other volunteering positions (not coach or manager)

If you are volunteering for any other position (not team related) please fill out this application and complete the Criminal Record Check as explained above.

Do you have to have previous Coaching experience or be a soccer expert to be a Coach?

No experience required! We are behind you every step of the way. Our Coach development / training program is extremely comprehensive. After completing the program you will be fully prepared and confident to fulfill the Coach role. Also please check out our Coaches Corner page for some great information regarding rules and policies.

Also please visit the Team Staff information page for more information on how to become a coach or team manager.

Ready to apply? Please go over here and fill out an application

Please note that all coaches and team managers alike will need to fill out an application. This is the only way our system allows us to "link you" to a team. When you are linked to a team in our system you will receive all the important communications sent only to coaches and managers.

Coaches and managers MUST HAVE A CURRENT CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK on file with the Club prior to the season start. Please contact diana@albionfc.ca if you have any questions.

What age do you need to be to be a Coach?
You need to be at least 16 years old to be a Coach.
Do I have to pay for my own Coach training?
Albion FC will pay for all coach training provided through our Club to registered Coaches. There will be training outside our Club available as well and details will be provided once the event is announced.
I want to volunteer but I don't have a lot of time. Can I put my name down for volunteering opportunities?

We are always looking for volunteers! Whether you have one hour to give or a whole soccer season we can certainly use your help. We are a fun group of people that love soccer. Albion FC is committed to providing a great soccer program at a low cost to our Community and the only way we can do this is with the amazing help from our membership.

Please fill out the form below to register for our volunteer list. We will send out an email with volunteer opportunities and if you are available great! If not, then maybe next time?

Our sessions start at 9am and run until 4pm so for example groups U4-U5 can go anytime between 9am and 11am. U6-U7 can start anytime between noon and 3pm.

Due to COVID we had to push our sessions a few hours to make sure we limit the number of players each hour.

Where can I find schedules?

All our schedules are posted here https://albionfc.ca/schd. Please note that we will not have a game schedule until closer to season start. Game scheduling is done by the league and once this is ready individual clubs enter their field and time scheduled for each game.

Where can I find the schedule for the Programs?

You can find all the information for the Programs by clicking on the program you are interested HERE.

Do we get a refund if the game or session is cancelled due to weather?

Cancellation due to Weather

Soccer season runs from Fall to Winter and mother nature does not always cooperate or adhere to our posted schedules. Bad weather, potential serious damage to the fields (and thus to the players) and other unforeseen circumstances could cause Park and Recs or AFC officials to cancel games and close fields for practices and games.

Albion FC's first priority is to provide a safe and fun environment in which our children can play and learn the game of soccer. When we plan our 6 month long season we take into account that there will be a number of weather related cancellations and we do our best to minimize them considering all factors.

Please keep in mind the following:

  • We have no control over field closures by the City of Maple Ridge Parks and Recs. Turf field time is very limited and in reality many of our practices and games are on grass fields. Constant rain will make the grass soft and the use of these fields will damage the field further. Using fields under these conditions will not only result in irreversible damage to fields but could result in very large fines for our Club if we use them under those circumstances.
  • Soccer season is 6 months long. Is one of the longest sport seasons and it is still a considerably good value even after weather cancellations.

  • Weather cancellations are expected and part of soccer. It happens! We don't want it to happen but it does. This is factored into the season (which is why its one of the longest sport seasons available).
  • We do not cancel because its raining! This is a common misconception that we would like to address. Soccer can and will be played in the rain. The only reason for cancellations is due to field damage or extreme weather. To put things in perspective a 30 minute session on a soft, already wet field can permanently damage the field and close it until the end of the season. Our players safety is our main concern! Soft, damaged fields could result in bodily injury due to uneven surfaces.

  • Cancellations only produce extra work for all volunteers involved so we really try our best not to go that route. As a Club we do not save any money or effort by cancelling sessions or games. Our fees are per player and not per usage so we do not receive a credit if we can't use the field due to cancellations. We do have to try and reschedule games which produces an inmense amount of work for all our volunteers involved.

As a Club we really do not look forward to cancellations so when we send out an email cancelling you can rest assured we've explored every other option to avoid cancelling said session or game. Unfortunately, most times we do not have alternate locations to utilize. Further to this many times our scheduler needs to reassess the whole schedule to fit in any make up games which results in a lot of work and effort on her part. A lot of work goes into scheduling and when something does not work as planned most times is "back to the drawing board" and hope we can re-schedule everything.

To sum it all up - cancellations due to weather will happen during the season and it is part of participating and playing soccer. We look forward to a great season!

Is there going to be a mid-week practice for the U4 - U6’s?
These programs will only have one session scheduled per week. Please refer to your group schedule for time, dates and venue. Please see schedules here https://albionfc.ca/schd
How many practices are there per week?
Practices are done locally and the number of weekly practices will depend on the coach and the age group. Most teams practice once per week on a set schedule and Prospect teams will most likely have practices more often. Players U4 to U6 will always have only one session a week coached by our Technical Staff. Please see schedules here https://albionfc.ca/schd
